SERVANTHOOD

Matthew 24:45-51

⁴⁵ “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?⁴⁶ It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.⁴⁷ Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.⁴⁸ But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’⁴⁹ and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.⁵⁰ The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of.⁵¹ He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

      SERVANT-HOOD is not a job that we need to do just because we are convicted by the Holy Spirit, it's our RESPONSIBILITY and ACCOUNTABILITY not only to God but also to our fellow believers.  It is an IMPORTANT thing that we should not be taken for granted.

      A FAITHFUL SERVANT cannot be measure by the number of ministries that he has but achieved nothing, it is by his productivity and contribution using the GIFTS that the Lord has given him in the RIGHT MINISTRY. There should be harmony for everything .

The Request of James and John

³⁵ Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”

³⁶ “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.

³⁷ They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”

³⁸ “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”

³⁹ “We can,” they answered.

Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with, ⁴⁰ but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”

⁴¹ When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John.⁴² Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.⁴³ Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,⁴⁴ and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.⁴⁵ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

1. Sacrifice for others. 

(Jesus Christ is the greatest of all because He gave the greatest sacrifice) 

³⁸ “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”

 

2. Sacrifice for others.

(Desire to serve more than being serve)

⁴³ Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,

3. Giving of oneself.

(We are called by a great God; we are called by a great ministry)

⁴⁵ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Luke 19:10-"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

 "If you do things that is not relevant in seeking and saving the lost, it has no eternal value.  Only what is done for Christ has eternal value." -Ptr. Ed Lapiz

      SACRIFICE, SERVICE, and GIVING to others... easy to say but definitely hard to put in action, unless we learn the art of SELFLESSNESS. And when you do, that's the time you can purely sacrifice, serve, and give yourself to others. 

 

The whole duty of man - FEAR GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENT

Ecclesiastes 12:13 - "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind."

The highest honor of man - SERVING GOD

John 12:26  - "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me."
